Do you know that you can clean with grapefruit? Do you know what you can clean with grapefruit? Do you know how to prepare a grapefruit-based cleaner? Do you want to learn how to do it? Read on then.
When a cleaner from North Woolwich first told me that grapefruit can be used in the housecleaning process, I was quite surprised. I decided to try, though, and I was surprised again, because this fruit really has cleaning properties. There is just one small issue, it takes a lot of time to prepare a grapefruit-based cleaner. Here is the method:
Fill in a sauce pan with peels of the fruit and cover them with water. Put them on the stove and bring the mixture to a vigorous boil, after which turn down the stove and let the water simmer a whole day. Top up the liquid as many times as needed. Switch off the appliance after a few hours of boiling and leave the solution to cool down until the next morning. When you get up on the next day, you have to strain the cleaner into a glass jug. Don’t use plastic ones, as they will melt from the grapefruit solution. If there is a cleaner left after you finish cleaning, water bath can it in a jar, or vacuum seal it, because it will start fermenting if you leave it open. The smell of fermenting grapefruit is quite unpleasant, to be honest, but it can still be used for cleaning. Keep the concentrate away from your little ones, because it is not good for drinking.
This grapefruit solution is practically an all-purpose cleaner. Dilute one part of it into four parts water, and you can use it to clean counter-tops, stove-tops, mirrors, windows, sinks, toilets, tile floors, your bathroom, refrigerator, and a lot of other things. It not only makes everything sparkling clean, but also leaves a wonderful citrus scent in the air.
If you want to refresh the colour of your whites, cleaners from Limehouse recommend that you add half cup of the grapefruit concentrate to the laundry detergent. It will whiten your clothes, freshen them up, and they will smell wonderfully.
If you want to remove hard stains, like the ones on your stove-top or in the oven, pour some of the undiluted solution directly on the spots. Leave it for 15 minutes and rub with a scrubber, afterwards.
Cleaning with grapefruit is really easy and everyone can do it. Moreover, it is safer than cleaning with hard chemicals, and cheaper, too.
