Everyone hates to come home and in their haste to cover everything with chewing gum, transferred from your shoes off the street and discarded by an improvident person. This can really make you angry but relax – there are a few ways to remove the gum from your carpet.
Before you contact a cleaning agency and call professional London cleaners, try to remove it by yourself. It’s not very hard and will not cost you a lot of effort. There are three different methods.
Method 1 – Heat the gum
Very carefully heat the gum with a hair dryer and be careful not to melt the carpet fibres. With a plastic bag lift the softened gum. When it sticks to the plastic, pull it up. Apply some methyl salicylate. Using a rag pull more of the chewing gum out. When you remove it completely, clean the stain and the area around it with dish soap in warm water. Then rinse with warm water. It’s not necessary to use a fan to dry the area. Just blot up with a dry cloth and let it dry on its own.
Method 2 – With an ice cube Take one ice cube over the area. Next, you should dab the cube on the gum and leave it for a couple of minutes. The chewing gum should become hard and you’ll easily pull it off the carpeting. Do everything gently. If the chewing gum isn’t coming off, use methyl salicylate to remove the remaining bits. Use a gentle detergent to clean the area. After that, rinse well with warm water and let the area dry.
Method 3 – With a bag filled with ice
Scrape away what you can of the gum with a spoon and vacuum. Fill a plastic bag with ice and let it sit on the area for about 15 to 20 minutes. When the gum is frozen, chip it away with a spoon or only with your fingers. After the gum has been removed, clean the area with a detergent solution and finally, rinse with warm water. Blot up and let the area dry.
Yet, if you’ve wait for too long and the chewing gum is stuck very deep into the fibres, maybe it’s time to call cleaners in London company and not risk to ruin the carpet yourself.
