Remove Berry Stains from Carpets

I thought that I picked them all up, but in the morning I saw that a few were stepped on. It was of course all dry and I didn’t know what to do. In the following lines I will tell you what happened after that and how I’ve dealt with the problem.

I was very worried about the carpet because it was new and it was really expensive. My husband and I decided not to risk and ruin the carpet and therefore we contacted professional London cleaners immediately. They specialise in cleaning and they had no problem to give us cleaning tips and advice how to remove the berry stains. Below are the steps, which the cleaners gave me and which I performed.

1. If the spill is fresh, you should blot up as much of the juice as possible. But if the stain is old (like in my case), you should try to scrape off any of the excess blackberry from the carpeting. First, start with water. You can use a spray bottle and that way, you will prevent the spreading of the stain. Just spray the stained area and then soak up using a paper towel. Repeat the process a few times.

2. Make a mixture of dish washing detergent and warm water. Apply the solution onto the stain very carefully. Then, rinse with cold water.

3. If the stain is still there or you can still see some traces, apply hydrogen peroxide, if the fabric of the carpet allows it. After 5 to 10 minutes rinse very well with cold water.

4. If it is safe for the carpet, wash with chlorine bleach and that should remove all traces.

Whether it is spilled blackberry juice or smashed berries, the carpet can be cleaned, if you act adequately. Cleaning London companies remain the best decisions, if you don’t want to risk damaging the carpet even more. And next time, you should be more careful with your fruit juice, because if there is one thing that I remembered about fruits is that stains left by them are difficult to remove.
