The lizard is an exercise which will improve your coordination. It will also strengthen your abs, core, shoulders, biceps, forearms and legs. Try climbing up and down the stairs, stretched out in a lizard position. Stretch out your left arm as far as you can up the stairs, making sure it is secure on a step above you, then lift your right knee as high up as you can, to your side, keeping your torso at an equal level above the stairs beneath you. Place your right foot onto a step. Pulling with your left arm and pushing with your right foot, hoist yourself up and repeat the movement with your right arm and left leg. Repeat the movement until you have reached the top of the stairs and then trying repeating the exercise, going down the stairs. It is essential when going down, that you have some supervision if you are not experienced. Make sure you have some enough cushioning at the bottom of the stairs, in case should you miss your footing.
You can also use the stairs to workout your calves. Stand at the bottom of your staircase, on the first step. Make sure that only the ball of your feet and toes is supported by the step. Holding on to the banister, cross your legs, so that one foot is resting behind the other, on your calf. Push up, so that the foot on stairs lifts you onto your toes and then lower your heal and repeat the same movement
You can also work out your triceps at the bottom of the stairs. Sit on one of the steps with your feet on the ground. Place both palms close you, on either side of your glutes. Lift yourself off the stairs by flexing your triceps and extending your arms. Using your legs and arms lower your glutes one step down and then push yourself back up to your starting level and repeat the exercise.
